I guess it all started with that chord- the opening slam/smash/exciting sound of the first chord from “A Hard Day’s Night” that I heard as a kid. I was hooked…music became a part of me and there was no turning back…
Growing up in the Great South Bay town of Babylon NY has affected the way I view things, the ebb and flow of stuff, to dealing with the sand between my toes, and how the heck it got there…
I met Mike M (the other half of Nuru Lain) in High School and played in our school’s Stage Band together. We’ve basically been collaborating ever since. Mike and I are very different in some ways, yet he has always brought a fresh perspective to things in general…that kind of sums up our sound…
We hope you enjoy these tunes, they are snapshots of life within and without us; and there are many more on the way… By the way, you may ask yourself “What’s the Deal with the Band’s Name?” Well, trying to make a long story short, I used to have a work study job in the AV lab at my University’s Pharmacy department. There was a PHD candidate who used to sign out a computer to do her research. I used to stare at her name on the sign out sheet….NURU LAIN…and think, “What a Cool Name…” Well, I got the band together for a battle of the bands at that time, and I decided to ask her if I could use her name. She gave me a big smile and agreed…She then told me that NURU LAIN (said slowly, it just rolls) means “The Light of the Eyes.”
